Step back to the elegance of early Fort Myers at the Historic Burroughs Home & Gardens. Built in 1901, this magnificent Georgian Revival mansion served as the center of social life for one of the region's most influential families.
Located along the Caloosahatchee River in downtown Fort Myers' vibrant River District, the Burroughs Home is the only historic residence of its era still standing in its original location and open to the public. During your visit, you'll discover the fascinating story of the Burroughs family while learning about distinguished guests who once crossed its threshold, including Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.
Lovingly preserved and thoughtfully restored, the home showcases original furnishings, family heirlooms, period décor, and historic photographs that capture the charm and sophistication of life in Southwest Florida at the turn of the twentieth century.
Outside, stroll beneath majestic live oaks, wander through beautifully landscaped gardens, or relax in a rocking chair on the stately verandah overlooking the Caloosahatchee River.
Your experience comes alive as you meet Mona and Jettie Burroughs—the spirited daughters of Nelson and Adeline Burroughs—whose engaging stories and delightful recollections offer a warm, personal glimpse into the daily life, traditions, and celebrations of one of Fort Myers' grandest historic homes.
