Head to points known and unknown on these sun-splashed islands dotting the Gulf of Mexico. All are open to visitors, but each has a curious way of giving you something entirely new to discover.

Clustered around the old train depot that connected industry to the southern tip of Gasparilla Island, Boca Grande has evolved into an illustrious playground for dreamers and explorers alike. The community exudes a relaxed and barefoot elegance, the result of life moving no faster than a bicycle or golf cart. Get carried away to fine beaches and miles of bike paths on the western part of the island. Explore historic lighthouses and experience a true taste of "Old Florida" at The Gasparilla Inn & Club, located in the heart of Boca Grande. Fishing is a popular pastime here and the area is also known as the "Tarpon Capital of the World." Anglers from all over the world travel here in hopes of catching the prized "Silver King".

Offshore, teal waters hold some of the best-kept secrets in Florida. With no bridge access, the outer islands attract curious boaters of all abilities. Hop on a boat, take a ferry, or head out on an island-hopping tour. More than 100 islands punctuate the coastal waters with natural experiences not to be missed.

North Captiva is only accessible by boat or private seaplane. The island is popular for its secluded beaches, large rental homes and the famous fish tacos at Barnacles restaurant.

Useppa Island stands firm in the water as the perfect stopover on a Captiva Cruises tour. Eat lunch at the exquisite Collier Inn, step back in time at the Barbara Sumwalt Museum, or simply enjoy the stunning botanical walk around this private island.

Cabbage Key is a dream away from the rest of civilization, with its historic inn and restaurant offering spectacular views of Pine Island Sound. After a casual lunch, climb the water tower for amazing panoramic views.

Cayo Costa boasts an experience like no other. The majority of this barrier island is a state park, featuring nine miles of secluded beaches, along with tent campsites and primitive cabins within close proximity to the beach. Limited visitors to this island mean there is abundant bird and wildlife to enjoy viewing, as well as plenty of shells to find washed ashore.
