Portrait of Aretha Starring Cece Teneal

Award-winning vocalist CeCe Teneal brings the music of Aretha Franklin to life in Portrait of Aretha, channeling the power, phrasing, and emotional command that made Franklin the Queen of Soul. More than a singer covering familiar hits, Teneal has the rare ability to step fully into the spirit of Aretha’s music, transforming the stage with a presence that feels both deeply personal and unmistakably rooted in Franklin’s legacy.

From “Chain of Fools” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” to “Rock Steady” and “Until You Come Back to Me (That’s What I’m Gonna Do),” the show draws from the depth and range of Aretha’s extraordinary catalog. A celebrated artist in her own right, Teneal brings the credentials and vocal authority to carry this music with conviction.

Her performances balance strength, soul, nuance, and control, supported by musicianship that gives these songs the richness and drive they demand. Portrait of Aretha is built around the timeless music, but it is Teneal’s award-winning artistry and her striking ability to embody the essence of Aretha Franklin that give the show its power.
