5 Reasons to Visit the IMAG History & Science Center

When you’re looking for engaging things to do in Fort Myers with kids, the IMAG History & Science Center is your one-stop shop for inspiring awe and wonder, and it’s fun for the whole family. It’s where you can interact with sea life, build an innovative contraption – you can even run through an indoor rainstorm. With more than 60 interactive STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) exhibits, you can easily spend an entire day here. Here’s five reasons why you should visit the Imaginarium science center on your next trip to Fort Myers.

1. Explore Virtual Fort Myers

Travel back in time to 1856 to see what Fort Myers was like for the area’s early settlers. Using augmented reality (AR), you’ll experience Fort Myers at a critical point in its history – the beginning, when the first residents began to build Fort Myers into what it is today.

2. Get “Tanked” in the Living Lab

The Imaginarium in Fort Myers, known around here as IMAG, is home to an impressive 3,200-gallon aquarium created by the popular Animal Planet® show Tanked. Inside you’ll find bamboo sharks, angelfish, rock groupers and zebra moray eels gracefully swimming around a replica of a sunken WWII warship, the USS Mohawk. The exhibit also uses state-of-the-art technology to let you take a virtual dive to the real USS Mohawk.

3. Enjoy Close Encounters of the Fishy Kind

Get up close and personal with stingrays, horseshoe crabs, sea stars, urchins and much more with the “SEA-to-See” Touch Tank Encounters. Every hour, a marine specialist leads a guided tour that’s sure to inspire the budding marine biologist in your child – or even in you.

4. “Sea” What’s Playing on the Big Screen

Explore sea life along the ocean floor with 3D movies in their Theater-in-the-Tank. Learn about ocean habitat preservation or visit a Lost World full of hungry dinosaurs! Check their website for current shows and showtimes.

5. Feed a Stingray

Hey, stingrays get hungry, too. For only $3, you’ll have real, live stingrays eating right out of the palm of your hand – and a priceless memory you can take with you. Just purchase your food packet at the front desk.

For a kid-friendly outing that brings out the kid in everyone, head to the IMAG in Fort Myers. Just imagine how much fun you’ll have – the ocean’s the limit.
