Ceremonial Burning of the Hurricane Flags – 8:00 PM
At the heart of the evening lies the Ceremonial Burning of the Hurricane Flags, a symbolic tradition marking the end of storm season and the strength of our coastal communities.
This powerful custom began in Key West in 2005, when locals sought to honor their resilience after a series of destructive hurricanes. Since then, it has grown into a cherished annual tradition that spread to Fort Myers—first as a local gathering, and later as a unifying community event that continues to remind residents of our shared perseverance and hope for calm seasons ahead.
This year’s ceremony will include remarks from Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson and local dignitaries, a benediction, raffle, and the Star-Spangled Banner following the burning ceremony.
Special thanks to our event sponsors and partners:
Storm Smart, Erikson’s Drying, Lusk, Drasites & Tolisano P.A., LCEC, FPL, Rist Family Foundation, Eastern Architectural Systems, Gulf Coast News, and Spiro & Associates.
And heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated volunteers and City of Fort Myers staff for helping make this community tradition possible.
Let’s come together to celebrate calm skies ahead and the strength of Southwest Florida!
