Performers in the genre have the opportunity to perform an original song live, win great prizes, and compete for a spot at Southwest Florida’s Island Hopper Songwriter Festival! Doors open for cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and performances begin at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are General admission at $10. Selected artists will be invited to perform live at SBDAC on Friday, August 19, in front of a special judge’s panel and a live audience. Judges will also give feedback on each performance and will determine the Grand Prize Winner. The audience will have a chance to vote for the People’s Choice Winner. Out-of-state submissions are also encouraged, but the competition does not provide airfare or travel accommodations. The rockstar judge lineup for this competition will include Dave Fortman, who is a Grammy-nominated music producer from New Orleans. His productions have sold over 27 million records worldwide. Artists he has worked with include Evanescence, Slipknot, Godsmack, Mudvayne and Simple Plan. He is also the guitarist for the rock band Ugly Kid Joe, who saw multi-platinum success in the early 1990s.

Also judging the competition is Darrell Nutt, who has been a session drummer, producer and mix engineer for over 25 years. He has  provided high quality drum tracks, loops and samples for clients around the world from his studio in Southwest Florida. Darrell has recorded or performed with members of Steely Dan, AC/DC, Goo Goo Dolls, YES, The Moody Blues, Bad Company and Parliament Funkadelic. In the 1990s, Darrell toured internationally with Country music artists and appeared on national TV shows. Today, Darrell balances his time directing music videos, producing music for singer-songwriters and creating drum-related products.

Also included in the lineup of judges helping select the Grand Prize winner is Louis Kaplan, the Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia of Southwest Florida who oversees nine radio stations in Fort Myers and Punta Gorda, including 105.5 The Beat, Cat Country 107.1, 95.3 The Beach, and Y100.1.
