Your Florida Vacation Doesn’t Have to End After Disney
Every kid wants to go to Disney World, and every parent wants to take them there. But it seems a shame to take them to Florida and not let them experience the beach. Extend your Florida vacation south to Fort Myers, where mom and dad can relax and the kids can play.
You can find souvenirs in just about any store in Florida, but none are quite as unique and memorable as the ones you find on the beach. Plus, they’re free and you’ll have a blast picking them out. Sanibel is known as the “Shelling Capital of the World,” and for good reason: hundreds of shells wash ashore every day thanks to the gentle Gulf current. They come in a wide variety too, from lightning whelks to conchs to the rare and much sought after Junonia. You can take as many home with you as you can carry! Fort Myers even has its own holiday, National Seashell Day, celebrated on the first day of summer each year and is full of shelltastic events.
If your children are curious about sea life (and what kid isn’t?), have them spend a day at the Sanibel Sea School. Here they can get a hands-on, fully immersive education about the ocean and lifeforms that live there. They’ll get to do things like find a seahorse in some seaweed, or spot a manatee or pod of dolphins. At the end of the course, each sea student receives a Certificate of Mastery and memories that will last forever.
Celebrate their “graduation” from sea school with a day at Sunsplash Family Waterpark in Cape Coral. As southwest Florida’s largest waterpark, it provides hours of fun with dozens of slides, pools and places to play. There’s even an ecological boardwalk where you can dry off for a bit and explore the nature on the shores of Lake Kennedy.
Or you can continue the educational fun at the Imaginarium Science Center in Fort Myers. Here the kiddos can play and learn at the same time with interactive exhibits ranging from marine biology and paleontology to physics and meteorology.
These activities, and so many more, are the reasons why you should extend your Florida vacation south. Start planning your vacation to Fort Myers today.
